In the Book of Revelation, there were actually ten major characteristics prophesied about the “Great City of Babylon”.

1) A City of World Political Power

2) A City of World Economic Power

3) A City of Wealth, Luxury & Fashion

4) A Port City by the Sea

5) A City of Multiple Nations and Ethnic Diversification

6) A City of Art & Music

9) A City of Blasphemy

This beast is the same beast described in Chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation that “had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horn, and on each head a blasphemous name.” (Revelation 13:1)

10) A City Symbolized by a Woman

In the Old Testament of the Bible, the city of Babylon was the capital of the ancient Babylonian Empire, which invaded Judah and destroyed the Solomon’s Temple of God in Jerusalem. Later, it also became the capital of the Persian Empire and the Greek Empire. It was destroyed about two thousand years ago.

However, the spirit of Babylon did not die with the physical city. She could move to another place. In Zechariah 5:7-11, there was the case where the woman of wickedness was lifted up and carried to the country of Babylonia, or Shinar in Hebrew. From time to time, it could show up in different places, like Rome in the first century.

Now the question is: where is “the Great City of Babylon” today with so much economic and political power and influence, and with so many unique characteristics as prophesied in the Bible?

The answer is: the Great City of New York

Next: The Great City of New York and the Statue of Liberty
