The Biblical Prophecies about
The Catastrophic Fall of New York City
1. The Prophecies of the Fall of Babylon in the Bible
The biggest disaster in the Bible’s Book of Revelation is the Fall of Babylon prophesied in Chapter 17 to 18. However, before this disaster happens, there was a warning of the Fall of Babylon in Chapter 14 of the Book of Revelation: A second angel followed and said,
“Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great, which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.” (Revelation 14:8)
Then, in Chapter 17 of the Book of Revelation, it clarified that the Woman on the Beast has a title written on her forehead:
“BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” (Revelation 17:5)
She was also “the great city that rules all the kings of the earth.” (Revelation 17:18)
Finally, in Chapter 18 of the Book of Revelation, Babylon the Great falls. An angel coming down from heaven and shouted:
“Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird. For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.” (Revelation 18:2-3)
However, out of the mercy of God, another voice from heaven gave the warning to people:
“Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.” (Revelation 18:4)
The last time God called people out before the judgment was His calling through His angels for Lot’s family to flee from the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah before the total destruction of the twin cities in Chapter 19 of the Book of Genesis at the beginning of the Bible. Here, in the Book of Revelation at the end of the Bible, God made the same call for people to come out of Babylon the Great before the judgment of God on Babylon the Great. That’s how serious this catastrophe is!
So, what did these prophecies really mean and where is Babylon the Great at the current age?
All these repeated prophecies of Babylon the Great in the Bible's Book of Revelation revealed both spiritual and physical characteristics of Babylon the Great, the great city that rules all the kings of the earth.” Now, let’s take a deep look at both the spiritual and worldly characteristics of Babylon the Great.
2. The Spiritual Characteristics of Babylon the Great and the Beast
At the beginning of Chapter 17 of the Book of Revelation, it shows a vision of “a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. The name written on her forehead was a mystery:
BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.” (Revelation 17:3-6)
From this description, it revealed the two major spiritual characteristics of Babylon the Great: Adultery and Blasphemy. They are the same spiritual characteristics of Jezebel who misled people into sexual immorality and killed the prophets of God in 1 Kings 18-21.
The beast that woman rode “was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns.” That’s the same beast of Antichrist as prophesied in Chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation. “The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while.” (Revelation 17:9-10) These seven kings were referred to the seven kingdoms that occupied Israel and oppressed the people of God in the past and in the future.
The first five kingdoms that already past were Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia/Medo and Greece/Macedon. The current one that occupied Israel in the first century was the Roman Empire, the future one that has not yet come would be the Ottoman Empire which had occupied Israel from the 14th to the 20th century.
“The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast. They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast. They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them." These ten horns represented the future spiritual forces that worship and follow the beast to wage war against the Lamb.
Combining the spiritual characteristics of the woman and the beast, they represent the evil forces that seduced people into sexual immorality and blasphemy against God. In the real world, they would be the forces promoting sexual immorality and attacking or persecuting the faith of God.
As said in the Bible, “the woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.” (Revelation 17:18) Therefore, Babylon the Great also represents a great city besides its spiritual characters. Now, let’s take a look at the worldly characteristics of Babylon the Great prophesied in the Book of Revelation.
